The peel was pretty. It didn’t really work — especially on touch.
What the peel was.
Drag a corner, lift the wallpaper, reveal the Lab underneath. Studio was the surface; the Lab was what lay beneath.
The mechanic was a canvas-drawn bezier fold: shadow, curl, highlight tracking the fold line. Felt like paper. Fought the finger. Especially on touch — drags misread as scrolls, the curl eating precision.
Where the new gesture came from.
The HAL memory-bank scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey, inverted. Dave pulls modules outof the rack to disassemble HAL’s mind. Our visitor pushes three slabs into turn the Lab’s lights on.
Same physics, opposite direction. Reading: turn the lab on, not turn AI off. Anti-AI is explicitly not our position.

Click the plate. Three slabs seat home in sequence; the warmup overlay plays; the switch resets. In production, you’d land in the Lab.
Why this fits.
- Slabs go in, not out. Turn the Lab on.
- Warmup, not flicker. Smooth opacity curves; no rapid flashing. Epilepsy-safe by design.
- Hard context switch. Studio physics (slow, opacity-based) never blend into Lab physics (snappy, transform-based). One threshold, clean cut.
