Chapter 09: Matter

Nothing Is Solid

Matter is made of atoms. Images are made of pixels. Thoughts are made of building blocks. Everything you see on a screen — every word, every shape, every image — is composed of smaller things that could, at any moment, reveal themselves.

What if the interface acknowledged this? What if text could decompose into its letters and reform as something else? What if shapes could morph? What if a word could dissolve into the particles it was always made of?

Four techniques. All performant. All running in your browser right now without WebGL, without GPU strain, without battery drain.
