Ben Shneiderman gave us a mantra in 1996: “Overview first, zoom and filter, then details on demand.” Simple enough. But most interfaces interpret this as: show less text, then show more text.
What if depth wasn't about quantity at all? What if each layer added a different kind of understanding — not more information, but a new dimension of the same information?
I'm going to show you a single idea twice. First, all at once. Then, one layer at a time. Feel the difference.
